I'm a teacher and we are divided into teams. Our team is called the Spelunkers.
4 teachers with 25 students each. I'm looking for books, info, products, posters, anything that I can get to share with our students. Remember, I'm a teacher and funds are low.
Thanks so much.

Re: Help a Teacher
Fri, July 14, 2006 - 4:24 AMThe students are in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We are located in Dade City, outside of Tampa. This is a public school.
First of all, many don't even know what spelunkers are, so the info will mainly educate, and inform the students, and adults:)
Whatever I get, we could create games, projects, experiments, create bulletin boards, guest speakers, etc.
I'm new at this so really, anything will work. (With this subject) I've lived my whole life in Florida, so I'm real good with informing them on Florida facts.
Thanks for responding!! -

Mon, July 17, 2006 - 2:03 AMMy dad tells me that he used to dive in the freshwater springs of central Florida. The whole state is basically a crust of dry land supported above a huge system of freshwater springs. If you would like, I could ask him for specifics. -

Mon, July 17, 2006 - 4:03 AMI've lived in FL all my life and never knew the term Spelunking! I grew up in Orlando, so I know about Weikiva Springs, not the underwater part.
Sure, give me all the specifics you can. Thanks!

Re: Help a Teacher
Tue, July 18, 2006 - 3:50 PMThis is what my Parents wrote to me:
We dove jenny Springs, Steam Boat, and The Devils Ear which is close to Genny Springs. Genny Springs empties into the Suwanee River. Steam Boat was a dangerous dive, and I understand that it has been closed. Genny on the other hand has been made into a park, and would be worth seeing.
The head waters of the Suwanee come from a great spring that is worth diving. If you cant dive, it is also a great to tube for float tubing. Very Clear.
Never go Cave diving without an experienced cave guide, a reliable flash light, and backup breathing system.
